Art Teacher Part Time

TITLE: Art Teacher – PT

DEPARTMENT: Education

BASIC FUNCTIONS: To instruct drawing and painting classes for youth in La Casa’s Youth Artist Program.

REPORTS TO: Human Resources Manager

FLSA: Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position provides art instruction to youth that are participants of the La Casa Youth Arts Program. The Art Teacher will prepare lesson plans prior to each class to ensure that objectives are met. This position will teach youth basic drawing principles with emphasis on perspective, light and distance. The Art Teacher will also instruct youth on painting techniques including the mixing and usage of colors for both acrylic and oil paints. This position provides guidance and instruction to youth participants that may have a wide range of art experience. The Art Teacher also creates, plans and coordinates exhibitions throughout the year of work completed by the Youth Arts program. This position also communicates with parents regarding enrollment, objectives, class schedules and upcoming exhibitions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate drawing and painting classes
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials prior to each class
  • Explain and demonstrate how
  • Instruct youth on the usage of pastels as well as acrylic and oil paints
  • Instruct youth on principles of perspective, light, distance and color
  • Provide guidance to youth that may have limited experience with drawing and painting
  • Plan and coordinate exhibitions of completed works of the Youth Arts Program
  • Assist with the coordination of projects that are based on grants
  • Identify needed materials for class instruction
  • Communicate with parents to inform them of class times and upcoming exhibitions
  • Other duties as assigned by manager or CEO

Job Skills Requirements:

  • Previous drawing and painting instruction (preferably with youth)
  • Ability to instruct youth on principles such as color, light, perspective and distance
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to keep multiple projects moving and on target simultaneously
  • Personal and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal)
  • Ability to use scanners, printers and other devices to prepare material for class
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma, or GED with some college-level coursework in education or related field
  • Some experience in art instruction

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education
