Job Title: Food Service Assistant
Reports to: Café Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Description:
Under the direction of the Café Manager, the Food Service Assistant performs a variety of general food production and service duties necessary for the efficient operation of the Café.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists in food preparation as prescribed by the daily menu
- Carries milk, food, utensils, napkins, etc. to classrooms/cafeteria for meals
- Work involves preparing, serving, and storing all food in an efficient, safe, sanitary manner, and cleaning of the preparation area, utensils, and equipment daily
- Maintains the work area in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition
- Assists with cleaning of ranges, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, and other food service equipment on a regular, periodic basis
- Stores food in first-in, first-out order on shelves in accordance with the local health and sanitation requirements
- Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the Café Manager, all other staff and volunteers, and children
- Performs any other tasks deemed necessary by the Café Manager
Job Skills Requirements:
- Must be able to measure food portions of food products accurately
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Must be able to follow the Health Standards of the foodservice industry
- Must be able to stand for periods of time
- Must be able to walk on concrete surface
- Must be able to life full size pans containing 10-25 pounds of food
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong desire to work collaboratively with staff
- Enthusiasm, energy and a passion for working with children of diverse backgrounds
- Personal and interpersonal skills
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
Desired Characteristics:
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Spanish preferred
- Previous food service experience
