BASIC FUNCTIONS: Assist preschool, elementary, or middle school teachers with instructional duties. Serve in a position for which a teacher has primary responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Teacher Assistant must demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, and a passion for teaching within every aspect of the position. This position will be responsible for following the direction of the classroom teacher and to assist teacher to plan, schedule and implement daily program activities appropriate to the developmental level of the assigned children. This position will collaborate with staff and parents to foster a team environment that will enrich each student’s learning and potential. The Teacher Assistant will work with families and students of diverse backgrounds and will hold a firm commitment that every child is provided the opportunity to learn.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow the direction of the classroom teacher and at times, when deemed appropriate, collaborate.
  • Assist teacher to plan, schedule and implement daily program activities appropriate to the developmental level of the assigned children.
  • Provide care and protection for assigned children. Maintain a safe environment conducive to children’s growth and development.
  • Supervise the children’s activities by participating with children in group games, enforcing safety and hygiene rules and encouraging children to develop needed skills.
  • Participate in parent meetings and demonstrate an interest in the children, which extends beyond the classroom.
  • Participate in staff meetings, continuing education and in-service programs.
  • Inform teacher/ executive principal of any concerns regarding a child’s adjustment, learning, social interaction, or physical function.
  • Help create a classroom environment of respect, high expectations, and the belief that every child can learn.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Principal or CEO.

  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate/Bachelor degree in Education or related field preferred
  • High School Diploma Required
  • Early Childhood I and Special Education licensing experience preferred

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Previous classroom teacher experience
